If someone wants to buy a resale HDB flat, they have to sell their overseas property within 6 months to comply with the new cooling measures.

Property market still buzzing

Sales of condominiums appear to be strong, despite last Friday's cooling measures by the Govt. High-end units like Waterscape at Cavenagh, L'VIV and The Laurels are doing well, while agents at the much anticipated The Vision at West Coast are already collecting cheques.

Property stocks fall after cooling measures

As expected, shares of many property developers have fallen on Monday after last Friday's announcement by the Govt to cool the property market. At 5.05PM, shares of CapitaLand fell 3.59%,
City Developments shed 4.81% and Wing Tai dropped 5.08%.

One would have thought the weekend would be sufficient to prevent any knee-jerk reaction to the news, but investors obviously had other ideas.

CDL Chief: IRs will not affect the real estate market immediately

According to Mr Kwek Leng Beng in Business Times yesterday, 'The integrated resorts (IRs) will not affect the real estate market immediately, unless the world economy recovers substantially when the IRs open, which is not likely.'

That's sounds slightly different to what he said in August.

It's too early to tell

National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan told parliament that the measures to cool down the property market 'have had some effect in tempering the exuberance in the private housing market', going by the numbers of private home sales in September(1,143) and October (811).

But has it really? We think it's too early to tell.

Lo and behold! National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan has decided to walk the talk and has introduced new measures to "ensure a stable and sustainable property market". These include restarting the confirmed list for the government land sales, not extending the Jan 2009 budget assistance measures for the property market and get this - REMOVAL of the Interest Absorption Scheme!
