Sales of new private homes in April go even higher, reaching 2,487

Life is full of surprises. Just when you think a pinnacle has been reached, another one comes along to put that mountain to shame. Last month we saw 2,393 new private units sold.

This month in April, a new record has been set -  2,487 new units were sold by developers. If you include executive condos in to the mix, the figure rises to 2,660. Is that crazy or what?

MND: Cooling measures are working, keeping a close eye on shoebox units

Mr Khaw has responded to some questions posed in Parliament today. The gist of it was a) cooling measures are working as there was a 'marginal decline' for the first time following nine consecutive quarters of price increases and b) the rise in the number of shoebox units for sales in the suburbs are a cause for concern, MND will 'continue to monitor these developments closely'.

Weekend Wrapup: 13 May 2012

It's a slow slow dead slow week for property. What's going on? Is the eurozone crisis making everyone scared again? Naaaah. Everyone's taking a short break, so many new developments have been launched these past four weeks. After a little breather, we're sure things will be back on track. Unless Mr Khaw has something up his sleeve...

Flo Residence condo flows into Punggol

Folks looking for a condo in Punggol will be glad to know that there’s a new development called Flo Residence is coming up in the area. Yet again, this is a water-inspired condo (apparently their tagline is “Flowing with the good life”) but thankfully it’s not water-themed, like so many condos we’ve seen. So, what separates this condo from the others?

Weekend Wrapup: 6 May 2012

Another week gone and more condos look like they are on the way. But the big thing was the comment about shrinking HDB flats by Mr Khaw that has got us and some of our readers riled up. According to some sources, he is technically correct when he says that flat sizes have remained unchanged in the past 15 years. Apparently, since 1997-8, average flat sizes have not changed. So that strange notion about shrinking HDB flats is plain nonsense, just ask any 15-year old!

Mr Khaw is missing the point. Over the years (we're talking about decades here), one cannot deny that flat sizes have gradually gotten smaller. What we and Singaporeans are all worried about are flat sizes in the next 10-20 years. Can anyone guarantee that they will will remain as they are then? Will we and our children be living in a shoebox? That's the big worry.

Watercolours EC in Pasir Ris review

Over the Labour Day holiday, we popped by Pasir Ris to visit the Watercolours EC showflat. The only problem was the showflat wasn't ready! Instead, we were directed to a huge white tent, with loud speakers blasting music over the salty Pasir Ris air. Looks like the developers are trying to sell units as soon as they can since they are facing pretty stiff competition from Pasir Ris One DBSS, Seastrand, Ripple Bay and the upcoming Sea Esta all around Pasir Ris.

Mr Khaw says HDB flats have not shrunk but HDB CEO Dr Cheong Koon Hean says they have

Recently in a dialogue session organized by REACH, Mr Khaw Boon Wan addressed a member of the public who was concerned about the shrinking size of HDB flats. According to the news report, Mr Khaw says that HDB hasn't been aiming the shrinking ray at HDB flats. This statement contradicts what was said by HDB CEO Dr Cheong Koon Hean last November (which caused quite a stir).

Watercolours makes a splash at Pasir Ris

A spanking new Executive Condo (EC) has landed in Pasir Ris, and it looks set to give the other condos a run for the money. Inspired by colours and lots of greenery, the aptly-named Watercolours looks vibrant, judging from the artist’s impression. What sets it apart from the other condos in the vicinity is that is doesn’t have as much emphasis on the beach or the sea. Instead, the developers have chosen to focus on colours. We hope it looks vibrant in real life, though. Read on for a more details!

Pasir Ris One DBSS review

We paid a short visit to Pasir Ris One DBSS last weekend. The (supposedly) last Design, Build and Sell Scheme project had quite a warm reception but not as packed as the other DBSS launches we've seen. What do we think?
