Government force feeds market with more land
Singapore land not enough? That doesn't sound like what the government is singing now that they will be releasing the largest land supply ever for private property since 1991 - if there is strong demand.Enough land to yield about 13,900 private housing units will be made available, including approximately 8,100 units from confirmed list sites in 2011. Developers would then have a wealth of choices to pick from (and compete with) when they develop a new condo.
So is this the nail in the coffin for en bloc?
We don't think so! While some of us here at H88 have always scoffed at the "Singapore land is scarce" theory (have you city folks ever seen all the empty land up north!?), all of us still agree that prime land in Singapore is and will always be in short supply.
Bottom line? Enblocs in prime areas should remain well sought after, although the same cannot be said for far off areas.
