Biopolis to be expanded
JTC
Corporation announced plans yesterday to spend around $80m to $100m to
expand Biopolis, Singapore's premier biomedical research hub. They plan
to add an extra 40,000 sqm of new space which would include lab design
improvements to support clinical trials. And don't worry, there was no mention of developing nasty viruses that turn people into zombies. But it's a good time to invest in some properties around the West Coast, District 5 area.
The expansion marks the fourth phase of Biopolis, the first two are currently completed while the third is to be completed by the end of this year. 2009 saw the biomedical manufacturing sector rake in $1.1b of fixed asset investment commitments, according to EDB. And lest we forget, it was the biomedical sector that pulled up our GDP towards the end of 2009.
